With reading proficiency so low,

  • Is the Dubuque School System socially promoting students even when they're not reading at grade level?
  • Should students be retained at grade level until they're grade-proficient?
  • Are students graduating from high school who can't functionally read?

With potential negative ramifications for decades -- personally and for the community-at-large -- this poses a major concern.

QUESTION NO. 1

Does the Dubuque Community School District use E-Verify before extending any, and all, employment offers?

Since the Des Moines debacle, have all current staff members been e-verified?

If not, why not?

With the Des Moines Public Schools' recent fiasco with its former superintendent, Ian Roberts*, it's more important than ever to protect our students, faculty, and other staff members.

*Federal authorities arrested former Superintendent Ian Roberts on immigration and firearms charges after discovering he was in the U.S. illegally and had overstayed his visa. He is being investigated for allegedly falsifying his resume, possessing firearms, and having an existing criminal record.
